View all FAQsThe Act describes commercial vehicles over 11,793 kg GVWR, not just highway haulers; the vehicle’s legal classification matters. However, sections 1–5 are marked “not in force” in the BC Laws consolidation reviewed, current to September 22, 2026. Its requirements start by regulation, not automatically after six months. Check the current Act and regulations before treating the camera requirements as a current obligation.
The Act describes a forward-facing road camera, not a mandatory driver-facing camera. If you choose cabin recording, review whether it has a reasonable, proportionate business purpose, inform employees and establish a footage-handling policy under the privacy rules that apply to your business. We can discuss the camera options; privacy obligations need a separate review.
Recording time depends on storage capacity, camera count, resolution and recording settings. Recorders use loop recording; event protection is available where the selected model supports it. We size storage and configure recording around how long you may need footage after an incident. Export important clips promptly rather than relying on loop storage or an event lock alone.
For exposed cameras, review dust and water protection such as IP67, and IP69K where the installation is subject to pressure washing. Also check the required operating temperature and vibration resistance for each component. The rating of a camera does not automatically apply to the monitor, cables or connectors. Careful sealing, strain relief and cable routing matter too.
